Dr. Kourosh Maddahi Uses Biocompatible Dentistry

We’ve all heard that we shouldn’t eat fish more than a few times per week because of the amount of mercury that is contained within our oceans at present. At the same time, however, traditional dentistry uses the same hazardous material to fill the holes in our teeth. The truth is, most “silver” tooth fillings are 50% mercury. Depending on the size of the filling, the amount of mercury used to fill a cavity can equal the amount found in a thermometer. Now, why do we limit ourselves to the amount of fish we consume per week, and yet simultaneously fill our mouths with the same toxic substance we are trying to avoid, making it present in our teeth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Research has shown that fillings expose a person to more mercury than from all other sources, and as mercury is one of the most toxic substances on earth, these findings are not to be taken lightly. Fortunately, cosmetic dentistry in Los Angeles has moved on from the dark age of mercury fillings.

Beverly Hills Dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, who practices cosmetic dentistry in Los Angeles, uses biocompatible dentistry to ensure the safety and wellbeing of his patients. Rather than knowingly expose his patients to harmful toxins, Dr. Maddahi uses alternatives such as tooth colored fillings made of resin or porcelain and inlays and outlays made of porcelain. These are not only safer, but also more cosmetically attractive as they do not make the teeth appear gray as silver fillings often do.

For those who have had the misfortune of being given a silver filling, Dr. Maddahi is able to remove the offending material, unless the patient is nursing or lactating. Only dentists who have been trained by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, like Dr. Maddahi, are qualified to remove toxic filling material. Dr. Maddahi believes strongly in biocompatible dentistry and will be happy to switch out your harmful fillings. Silver tooth filling removal is an extremely important step to take in regaining control of your dental health.

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi’s skill in biocompatible dentistry ensures that his patients are assured of the quality, safety, and aesthetic appeal of their dental work. Dr. Maddahi has built and revitalized many beautiful smiles that make people feel great.

Why Have Dental Implants Exploded in Popularity?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

This is a frequent topic when our Dr. Maddahi answers questions from the patients. What is it about this new item in cosmetic dentistry? Why are so many people thrilled to have dental implants instead of dentures?

Beverly Hills dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, suggests dental implants as the answer to missing teeth.  Implants are stable and permanent, which make talking, eating and smiling more enjoyable.

Offering a more natural look, feel and function and because they are permanently fixed in the mouth, the use of dental implants instead of bridges and dentures has exploded in popularity over the past several decades.

 Dental Implants

The back story on implants is that the scientific research that allowed dental implants to come into being began in the 1950’s with the discovery that metal titanium had an ability to bond with bone.  This very strong bond to surrounding bone is a process termed “osseointegration”, coming from the Latin wordosseus meaning “bony”.

After years of careful research and study, dental implants (titanium cylinders placed into the jawbone to support replacement teeth) have been refined with high success rates. There are now patients who have had implant supported teeth for more than twenty-five years.  No more the need for dentures and bridges, it’s easier to eat, looks better and much more easily cared for.

”I tell my patients with missing teeth that they should consider dental implants.”, explains Dr. Maddahi.  “If you, like millions of Americans, have lost one or more teeth, you may be all too familiar with the unpleasant consequences. For many, missing teeth lead to an unattractive smile, embarrassment from loose dentures, and pain or difficulty with eating.  Traditional cosmetic dentistry can provide replacements for missing teeth using bridges, removable partials and dentures; however, each of these has its problems.”

Bridgework usually involves altering natural teeth to provide a stable foundation for support of replacement teeth. Partials and dentures can, at times, be very unstable, leading to denture sores or speech difficulties.  Another little known problem associated with tooth loss is a process known as ‘atrophy’, a shrinking of the jawbone that can progress over the years. Bone atrophy not only affects jaw function, but can cause adverse facial cosmetic changes.

Dental implants are an effective, safe and predictable solution to the problems resulting from missing teeth. Many patients report they like the look more, and state that the implants feel and function like natural teeth.

Dr. Maddahi likes to inform his patients of the basis of his choices. “Dental implants are substitutes for the roots of missing teeth. They act as an anchor for a replacement tooth or crown or a set of replacement teeth.  Replacing missing teeth is important to an individual’s general health and to the health of remaining teeth. Chewing ability is lost when a tooth is lost. Unreplaced teeth can cause other teeth to be lost, tipped or crowded and create subsequent problems. There are also the obvious problems of poor appearance and loss of self-esteem caused by one or more missing teeth.”

In Search of That Perfect Smile: Advances in Cosmetic Dentistry Create Outstanding Results

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Who doesn’t long for a perfect smile? Looking in the mirror or catching our smile in a photo can cause a moment of depression. And when everyone on television, in movies and shown in the magazines have GREAT TEETH it’s very hard to ignore. A few short visits to Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, can change all that around!

While many of us don’t have a perfect smile naturally, these days ANYONE can get one, with the help of a cosmetic dentist.  If you have been considering ways to brighten your smile or improve some imperfections, there couldn’t be a better time. The advances in dental materials and cosmetic dental procedures in recent years offer results of near-perfect teeth that are close to being as strong as the originals.

“I have been performing cosmetic dentistry procedures on clients for many years,” details Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi. “But we’ve seen such advancement in materials and techniques in the last decade, that we are able to create more lasting, and less costly, enhancements to peoples’ smiles. The breakthroughs have been remarkable.”

Even if you are one of the lucky ones who have never needed braces, the everyday effects of aging and habits such as drinking coffee or red wine can create staining, discoloration or just an overall dull look to the teeth. Some get tired of looking at their dental flaws, large or small, such as small chips or rough spots, unmatching tooth shape, teeth that are wide apart or gapped, or even cavities that are filled with silver or gold fillings. Many procedures are available ranging from simple teeth whitening to full or partial mouth reconstructions with porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns.

One patient describes her experience.  “My entire adult life I have hated my teeth. I waited all these years, just not trusting the cosmetic dental developments and now I know that it was the right time.  It took only a few hours and three visits to have the smile I have always wanted with porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns.  Actually, to a have a smile better than I ever dreamed of. Every day I look in the mirror and am overjoyed with the look that I now have.  And the people I run into are amazed at how I look.  They don’t always notice what is different but tell me I look younger or thinner. I can’t thank Dr. Maddahi enough.”

Missing and Broken Teeth are Handled with Solutions from our Beverly Hills Implant Dentist

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

For patients who have difficulty due to missing and broken teeth, our Beverly Hills implant dentist procedures offer freedom in smiling, talking and eating.

I remember my grandfather who had to take out his dentures each night and put them next to the bed. I once was at a rehearsal for a play and this poor man got so into his lines that his teeth literally flew out of his mouth! (He was playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol. I can’t imagine how careful he was from then on – he did a hundred shows that season!)

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, who is a leading implant dentist in the Beverly Hills area, has worked tirelessly for twenty-one years to bring his patients new, beautiful smiles. He insists upon using state-of-the-art cosmetic dentistry when delivering dental implants, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening, offering the ultimate in top-quality dentistry.

Many people have newfound freedom with the permanence and stability afforded by dental implants. Yes, dentures and bridges are reliable and proven devices, but life is found to be much easier with implants. In this procedure small posts or artificial ‘roots’ are surgically fixed into the gum. On these posts, a new artificial crown or tooth is placed, instantly creating a freedom with eating, talking and smiling that makes them a very attractive option.

Where teeth are extremely discolored, misshaped or damaged, Dr. Maddahi uses porcelain veneers to craft a new tooth surface. This then enhances tooth form as well as sculpting a more pleasing or functional position. He also uses veneers to restore teeth with scratches, pits and chips, leaving the teeth looking more beautiful than ever but very natural. This veneer material is very durable and lasting.

To ensure that the new teeth match perfectly, Dr. Maddahi uses Shade Vision technology which will precisely analyze tooth color and shade. Ideally the existing teeth are whitened with the new Zoom! Teeth Whitening System, since teeth do discolor and stain over time. Wine, tea, coffee, cigarettes and certain foods can discolor the teeth, leaving them dull and appearing unhealthy or old.

Dr. Maddahi operates with this technology as a master technician and artist. He is acknowledged as possessing a rare artistic talent for dental makeovers.

This patient shares her day at our gentle dentistry office…

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

When I get home I am going to write a letter to Dr. Kourosh Maddahi and the Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist office because I am blown away.

It all started when someone I had spoken with on the phone for some years, but had never met, told me he was getting a divorce and wanted to meet me. He sent a photograph of himself and I got motivated to do a makeover before I met him. I lost weight but I didn’t take the easy way out. I educated myself on eating and exercising and followed my plan. After losing all the weight I went for the makeover.

From the moment I walked into Dr. Maddahi’s office I felt like I had been given the best possible care. Since I was from out of state, I was on a schedule and it was a rush to get me through all the procedures on my makeover within the time frame I had available. When I told my surgeon that I felt my smile brought my face down he directed me to see Dr. Maddahi and explore getting veneers.

Dr. Maddahi has a talent to envision a smile and how it should look. He asked me what I wanted to fix about it. I told him what I pictured it should look like. I told him I felt like I had a very small smile compared to how I felt inside. Mainly, when I would smile, my lower teeth would show instead of the uppers. I pointed out things I thought should be different. He then said let me tell you what I have seen as well and mentioned a couple of things that I had thought about but could not pinpoint like he did. It was exactly what I wanted. He transformed my smile without any major surgery – just reshaping the teeth. And the veneers – the way he put them on just transformed my smile completely!

I have been very happy every step of the way. Arcy helped me with the financing as this was not part of the original makeover project. I kid around about how I have a Mercedes of a smile. Now, when I smile, my smile is wider and you see all my upper teeth and less of the bottom ones. Truly he is an artist. I can’t wait to see my before and after shots. Today he did some final tweaking. I am soooo excited!

Everything about this office is special. From the beginning I was treated like one of the rich and famous. Dr. Maddahi was wonderful each time I came in. My temporaries came off and he saw me right away and worked around my schedule. I can’t say enough about how wonderful my experience has been. As far as dental work is concerned, I have only had cleanings in the past. However, Dr. Maddahi put me at ease and I never felt anxious or nervous. Even the shots for numbing were hardly noticeable. Each time I felt uncomfortable he noticed immediately and asked about my comfort – always looking after me. So, it’s a very comfortable environment. It’s also very classy and aesthetic. It’s just WOW!

This is the one thing I have wanted to do for a long time and how can you go wrong in Beverly Hills, especially in a practice like this. This really completed my makeover and I am very, very happy. It was worth every penny. You get what you pay for and it really matters where you go. That’s why I flew out here from New York. I was very lucky to be able to achieve all I have. I wanted to do it once and do it right – the first time. It’s been incredible, a fairy tale come true and now I’m off to marry Prince Charming. – MT
