Is there a Higher Standard of Gentle Dentistry?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

At the Beverly Hills dentist office of Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, it will be found that Dr. Maddahi’s Spa Dentistry office is really quite unlike other dental offices. Many claim to offer gentle dentistry, while this office bases it’s every office procedure, policy and activity on providing a higher standard of real gentle dentistry to its patients.

The first order of the day is to ensure that each patient feels welcome and is comfortable from the minute they near the office. With valet parking right next door, this arrival is a cinch, no driving around Beverly Hills looking for a parking spot.

The patient is warmly greeted and offered tea, coffee, water and the like. The friendly, aesthetic atmosphere of the gallery-like surroundings is a just preview of this new standard of dentistry. Paperwork is kept to a minimum, and can actually be completed on-line before the appointment.

Waiting to see the doctor is rare. Dr. Maddahi treats only one patient at a time. As quickly as possible, typically instantly, the patient will be taken into the examination room. Dr. Maddahi always begins treatment with a thorough exchange with his patient. He considers it important to fully discuss any concerns or questions the patient may have.

He will then fully cover the procedures to be done. Dr. Maddahi wants to make certain that the patient understands what to expect and this, he has found, can assist in relaxing the patient. Thorough and close communication between the doctor and the patient can dramatically decrease the stress of a dental appointment.

Communication is fundamental for gentle dentistry. Has there been any history of painful dentistry? Is the patient frightened by needles? How is the patient’s pain threshold? Do they have any fears or concerns? These are vital points of coordination between the dentist and the patient.

Every year it is found that more and more patients avoid the dentist, either because they have a fear of the dentist, or that they have had a bad experience earlier. Why would someone want to return to the dentist, in such a case?

In most circumstances the actual dental treatment began with pain. In order to do almost any dental procedure, Novocain has been needed. Administered with a needle, the pain commenced. Not necessarily the case at this office because Dr. Maddahi uses the newest anesthesia tool, the Citoject, to avoid such pain.

Dr. Maddahi explains, “What causes the pain of an injection is not the needle but the rate of delivery of the anesthetic. Before the Citoject, using conventional methods, few dentists could be painless. However with the Citoject a micro-compressor controls the rate of the injection so patients feel only a slight pressure, no pain. I try very hard to put the patient’s comfort first. I have used the Citoject since it first came on the market.”

This is one of numerous advanced dental high-tech tools offered in Los Angeles dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi’s Beverly Hills dentist office located nearby Century City, Hancock Park, Pacific Palisades and West LA. These are tools not normally found in a typical dental office. Here, the overall emphasis is on stress-free, pain-free dentistry, thus offering their patients an experience unlike any previous dental appointment.

Searching for the Cheapest Dental Implants Can be Risky

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The search for affordable dental implants in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, or hunting for cheap dental implants or the lowest dental implant cost on the internet, can be a risky endeavor. One might assume that all dental implant procedures are the same, and that if done in the US they are all approved by the FDA and ADA.

The truth is no. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, and the top implant surgeon in his Beverly Hills dentist office, have had extensive training as well as years of experience, resulting in many, many successes with dental implants.

Same Day Dental Implants? Less appointments, less pain? No cutting of the gum, thereby less invasive, yet, comparable cost to more lengthy processes. This office is well known for their precise attention to detail and medical integrity, which means that the exact placement of implants is a big part of this expertise.

It is important, when shopping for dental implants, to realize that a dental implant is a permanent, life-long fixture that factually molds into the body. Therefore the long-term success of the implant is based on the quality of the implant being used.

Over 200 different companies make and sell implants, so how then would a patient distinguish between those of acceptable quality and that which a dentist will use for their new teeth?

The ADA (American Dental Association) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) have only approved less than a dozen of these different manufacturers’ implants. These are the only products that they have found to prove to be safe and effective, thus winning the approval of the FDA and ADA.

Dr. Maddahi’s office uses only the utmost quality of dental implants, those that have the longest clinical research history. They avoid completely the less expensive, undocumented brands. Crafting an implant to precision tolerances with the high-quality materials required for long-term utilization in the mouth is unavoidably costly.

There is quite a variation in the wholesale cost of the diverse implant fixtures on the market. There are some, of the lowest quality implant devices, made in the Philippines, that sell for as little as three to five dollars. An appropriate dental implant that has been tested and approved may have an asking price that is as much as one hundred times that amount, in the vicinity of $300 to $500 to the dentist.

An additional factor in implant surgery deals with the actual placement and positioning of the implant device. Extreme skill and training is necessary when drilling holes into the jawbone. It is of utmost importance that the highly skilled dentist avoids damage to the nerves, face and jaw structure.

Dr. Maddahi always employs the newest and most advanced equipment, ensuring proper placement of implants, evading complications. Discomfort and pain, as well as infection leading to ill health, can be caused by the use of low quality, incorrectly positioned dental implant fixtures, ultimately causing a substandard smile.

Sirona, a three-dimensional imaging system, is the intuitive user interface of GALILEOS Implant technology which displays the nerve canal and other important anatomical points. These are mapped, denoted and measured precisely, using this highly developed software, providing the implant team a safe route to producing the best job.

The Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist office of Dr. Kourosh Maddahi offers no-charge dental implant consultation for any interested patient in Los Angeles looking for a dentist near Westwood, Brentwood, La Cienega or Wilshire.

Beware Veneers Pricing: You Could Get What You Pay For

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

What you pay for is what you get when it comes to veneers and cosmetic dentistry, it seems. Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Kourosh Maddahi, assists patients throughout the Los Angeles area. Much of Dr. Maddahi’s caseload involves refurbishing shoddy and improperly made veneers.

Dr. Maddahi is renowned for his expertise and excellence with porcelain veneers. Certain aspects of selecting the dentist to use for veneer work absolutely cannot be disregarded.

When shopping for the best price on porcelain veneers, choosing inexpensive veneer work, or just deciding upon a cosmetic dentist because they are situated nearby or are perhaps your family dentist, can be a potential liability. You really do need an expert veneers dentist.

It can be presumed that all dentists are similar in quality and that some merely choose to charge less for an equal product. Sorry, but this just is not the case. The maxim, “you get what you pay for” is, over and over again, a painfully true adage in dentistry.

Some veneers will easily chip, crack or fracture. Veneers can simply fall off. Often, inferior veneers will change color. Incorrectly veneered teeth can also develop sensitivity to biting or to hot and cold. Veneers that have been inaccurately placed or prepared can cause bleeding or infected gums, leading to pain. Veneers can throw off the bite, also causing pain.

When choosing a dentist for veneers it is important to use the following checklist, provided by Dr. Maddahi, which will assist in the selection of a high quality set of veneers.

Choose:
Top quality materials
Top quality aesthetics
A skilled dental team
Cutting-edge technology
Superior training Comfort
Extensive experience
Confidence
Excellent patient/doctor rapport
Convenience

Avoid:
Low quality veneer materials
Inferior bonding material
Poor quality aesthetics
Substandard training
An inexperienced dental team
Incorrectly prepped teeth
Careless bonding
Discomfort and pain
Discoloration of veneer
Inferior office quality

Additionally, it is another truth in dentistry that the aesthetic eye of the cosmetic dentist is rarely taught, learned or developed. Since a very early age, Dr. Maddahi has had an eye for the aesthetics, and that is why he chose this field. There are hundreds of his cases available to review and thereby witness his rare ability.

One patient explains, “My entire life I was told that I needed braces to correct my unsightly smile. Actually, I had such a drastic aesthetic mess, that I had been told that most likely braces would not even fully correct my smile. In just two appointments with Dr. Maddahi, one for three hours and the other for less than two, I now have a perfectly natural and beautiful smile. Honestly, it’s best that I waited to meet Dr. Maddahi.”

The fact that veneers can look so good can be the most obvious mishap if endeavoring to spend less for a smile reconstruction. Veneers can made to look too fat, too long, too square, too yellow, too white or too opaque.

What should have been a beautiful and natural-looking new smile can be a fresh cause for humiliation.

Therefore, you can see that your choice for a veneer dentist must be very competent and highly qualified, as well as particularly experienced. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, Los Angeles porcelain veneer dentist, is thereby the perfect choice. He offers no-charge porcelain veneers consultations at his convenient Beverly Hills dentist office located nearby Pacific Palisades, West LA and West Hollywood.

Oral Health, Bacteria and an Understanding of Such Matters

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Everyone knows that they must brush their teeth a minimum of twice a day. No one questions the fact that they are supposed to floss, daily, to avoid tooth decay and eventual loss of teeth. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, Los Angeles dentist with an office in Beverly Hills, further explains this health ritual.

Last year an oral care survey found that over 60 percent of the people asked felt that they knew that bacteria affected their oral health, but they would not be comfortable explaining why or how that works. This survey was given to more than 1000 adults across the United States.

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi is out to increase his patients understanding and knowledge of how bacteria affect oral health. The ADA explains it like this, “Your teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria called plaque. Following a meal or snack, the bacteria release acids that attack tooth enamel.”

So, decay is the destruction of tooth structure caused by the bacterial acids attacking the enamel. Tooth decay ensues when plaque mixes with the sugars, as well as the starches, of food. Jointly they develop an acidic substance that eats through the hard outside of the tooth, also known as enamel.

Bacteria are also at the root of gum disease. The ADA also explains, “Periodontal (gum) disease is caused by plaque… These bacteria create toxins that can damage the gums. It is important to have regular dental checkups, and professional cleaning is essential to prevent periodontal diseases.”

But if the exact bacteria are only guessed at, or remain undetected, a patient may lose their teeth. When Dr. Maddahi identifies the precise bacteria in the mouth using a special microscope, he knows exactly how to attack with a tailor-made treatment.

The remarkable dental instrument used in bacterial identification is a high-resolution state-of-the-art 40x by 1600x Trinocular Compound Microscope. With this microscope, the doctor, the hygienist and the patient are able to view, digitally, moving bacteria from the patient’s mouth on a computerized video screen. There is no longer any need for speculation, just pure science, when diagnosing periodontal disease.

Dr. Maddahi explains the importance of a proper dental hygiene routine, “Anaerobic bacteria (those living and growing in the absence of free oxygen) feed on leftovers and dead cells. These harmful microorganisms attack teeth and gums, producing a typical foul smell. The most common cause of halitosis is bacteria.”

He continues, “Brushing two or three times a day is not enough. Flossing after meals is important and seeing the dental hygienist to remove tartar buildup twice a year is needed. And don’t forget that dental caries or other decay or infection can also cause bad breath.”

In order to maintain good dental health, a regular dental checkup is required because decay can eat away from the tooth’s surface to the nerve in the heart of the tooth in just a year. Without regular cleanings and checkups a dental implant might be in order instead of just a clean bill of health.

Beverly Hills dentist, Dr, Kourosh Maddahi will provide a complimentary initial consultation in order to diagnose any existing dental worries. This is perfect for anyone from Westwood, Brentwood, Century City or Hancock Park who needs a new dentist!

Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist Offers the Highest Standard Ever in Laser Dentistry

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Now there’s a brand new state-of-the-art laser, employed in the Beverly Hills dentist office of Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi. This new laser, the Waterlase MD Turbo, works like a high-speed drill, but never touches the tooth. It uses laser energy and a gentle spray of water, performing without heat, vibration or pressure.

“I want to revolutionize dentistry. We strive for the fastest, best result with the least pain”, explains Dr. Maddahi. “With the Waterlase MD Turbo, we are accomplishing our dentistry procedures faster than ever with less pain, less waiting and less recovery time.”

So advanced from the original lasers used in dentistry, the Waterlase MD Turbo is a cool laser. Customarily, of course, a laser was inherently heat based. There developed a significant difference in this technology.  Waterlase is the only cool laser used in dentistry – which therefore means no more burning to remove tissue and bone.

Imagine your dentist using a cool laser instead of a high-speed drill for drilling cavities? Yes, that means you perhaps won’t need Novocain. With much less pain, no heat, no noise, no weird drill smell and no vibration, the speed of this new high-tech laser is nearly equal to that of a high-speed drill. Many patients have found they can now get a cavity filled without the use of any anesthesia.

This revolutionary transformation in dentistry should bring certain people back to the dentist office! A survey conducted by the National Institute for Consumer Education found that 82% of people have fear of the dentist. They also found that 68% of that fear is because of the injection so often needed for dental work. And, 53 % do not like the post-operative numbness.

As in earlier treatment of periodontal disease, this innovative dental laser can be used on infected gums to significantly shrink inflammation. Any expected pain in this treatment is greatly diminished with the Waterlase. Treating infected gums with laser dentistry will usually keep the area free from returning bacteria for up to 30 days. The now-vaporized tissue, which was infected beforehand, is found to grow back now, bacteria free.

Need crown lengthening? Customarily, it takes six to eight weeks of healing after crown lengthening before the next procedure can be done. When a condition exists where a tooth needs a crown but too much of the tooth is missing, crown lengthening will be performed right in Dr. Maddahi’s office. This is done with less recovery time and much less pain than earlier-used methods.

There is one more important use of laser dentistry. When a patient finds that their smile is “too gummy” this new laser is used to remove the extra gum, called gum recontouring. And this procedure is also now far faster, with less pain and far more rapid healing.

The upshot of Waterlase MD laser dentistry is that fewer injections are needed, meaning less numbing and soft-tissue procedures are completed with the least swelling, bleeding and post-op pain. The Waterlase MD effectively eliminates the vibration and heat of a drill, and affords much more minimally invasive dentistry thereby reducing patient fear and anxiety of dental appointments.
