Discolored Teeth that Damage Your Smile are Simple to Whiten

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Sometimes it’s just hard to look at a person’s smile because of the color of their teeth.  Of course there are the really yellow ones from smoking but also there’s many common causes for discolored teeth. These include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc.

And we have all seen how, during tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.  But this is no longer something one has to live with. Our Dr. Maddahi discusses the causes of tooth discoloration and which innovative techniques he recommends and the reasons for this advice.

“I think that everyone loves a bright white smile,” Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills says, “and there are a variety of products and procedures available to help you improve the look of yours.  Some people are satisfied with the sparkle they get from brushing twice daily, cleaning between their teeth once a day and with a regular cleaning at the dentist office. But, when the choice is made to go beyond this to make the smile look brighter, I suggest in-office Zoom! Whitening System.”

There are other options such as at-home bleaching and whitening toothpastes.  Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens the discoloration of enamel and dentin.  (Dentin is bone or calcified tissue that surrounds the pulp cavity of a tooth; it is the calcareous material harder and denser than bone that comprises the bulk of a tooth.)

If I am treating the patient in the office, then we are most likely to get the most natural looking, bright white smile.”, Dr. Maddahi further explains.  “During chairside bleaching, we will either apply a protective gel to the gums or a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues. The bleaching agent is then applied to the teeth, and a special light is used to enhance the action of the agent.  The patient also uses additional product at home to maintain their pearly whites!”

The complete procedure takes less than two hours. And by following some simple post-whitening care instructions, the teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, flossing, brushing twice daily and occasional touch-ups with Zoom! Weekender or Nite White gel are recommended. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available only through your dentist.

High-tech Tools Take the Stress Out of Dental Visits!

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I can’t help but think that most people consider going to the dentist one of their least favorite things on the to-do list. Many dentists just don’t care about their patients’ viewpoint – they are there to fix teeth and fix them he will! But, leading cosmetic dentist in Los Angeles, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, uses all the latest high-tech equipment to help make his patients’ experiences as pain-free, stress-free and efficient as possible.

He’s developed a reputation for himself as a cosmetic dentist, but Dr. Maddahi is also very skilled at basic dental procedures and uses all the advanced tools for these, too. Using the most recent equipment, Dr. Maddahi can make something as basic as cavity work an all new experience! First, he uses a Diagnodent digital cavity detector to show exactly where the cavity is located, as well as its size (this can even show some cavities that are undetectable to x-rays).

Diagnodent Digital Cavity Detector:

Combining this with drill-free dentistry Dr. Maddahi offers dental work like one might imagine in a science fiction novel. After digitally locating cavities, he uses air-abrasion – like a mini sandblaster, aimed to take the decay out of the tooth. This tool uses a fine aluminum oxide (baking soda) powder and strong air pressure to remove only the decaying sections of tooth. This avoids the pain, the burning smell and, best of all, the whining sound usually experienced when repairing a cavity.

Other modern tools employed by Dr. Maddahi include digital x-rays that cut radiation exposure by 90%, mini intra-oral cameras that show the dentist, and patient, exactly how the mouth looks inside, a digital bite reader that graphs out every moment of the patients bite for a most exact fit and The Wand, which removes the pain often experienced when getting local anesthetic with a needle.

Now you can plan to go the dentist and it can be stress-free, pain-free and a comforting experience. Some of our patients even liken their trip to see Dr. Maddahi like going to the spa!

Regular—twice daily—brushing and nighttime flossing is equally important to stave off unnecessary dental problems.

Can it be True.. The Ouch in Dentistry is a Thing of the Past?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I did not believe it myself. Must be an exaggeration! A day at the dentist with no pain? Fillings? Crowns? Porcelain veneers? What is this pain-free dentistry? Los Angeles dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has it down to an art… Using newly devised high-tech equipment your dream has come true!

First you start with a warm, caring office staff who treat you the way you would be treated at a fancy spa. Ok, that takes the edge off. Add a dentist who really wants to be on time! An office that does not double-book the dentist for appointments – the time is just for that one patient!

Then the dental work begins. There’s a new way to anesthetize the mouth for the work to be done.  A Citoject is a pen-shaped device that works to numb only the tooth, not the tongue, cheek, face and lips, making anesthetic injections essentially painless.

Our Dr. Maddahi explains, “What causes the pain of an injection is not the needle but the rate of delivery of the anesthetic.   Before the Citoject, using conventional methods, few dentists could be painless.  However with the Citoject a micro-compressor controls the rate of the injection so patients feel only a slight pressure and no pain.  I try very hard to put the patient’s comfort first.  I have used the Citoject since it first became available to us.”

When there’s new tooth decay, very often drill-free dentistry can be utilized. This is air-abrasion, like a mini sandblaster aimed to take the decay out of the tooth with a fine aluminum oxide (baking soda) powder.  Dr. Maddahi says, “Drill-free air abrasion dentistry is every patient’s dream.  No whining drills, no burning smell (the teeth never get hot), no vibration, and no anesthetic required.  It’s almost no dentistry!”

Laser dentistry is the latest technological advancement in dentistry.  It is used for soft tissue surgery, curing, and sterilizing, with the benefit of no, or just topical anesthetic needed to get started.  Hygienists routinely use the laser to kill bacterial periodontal disease for up to 60 days.  Dr. Maddahi explains, “The benefit to the patient is that it is more effective and less traumatic than conventional surgical methods because it uses the power of light to vaporize soft tissue without bleeding.  The precision of laser dentistry helps the patient heal with the least post-operative pain.”

The reality of pain-free dentistry is here. Los Angeles dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, is striving daily to make your dental care stress free and pain free!

What is a Dental Bridge and What is it Used For?

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Sometimes all the available choices in dentistry are confusing… Fillings, implants, whitening, porcelain veneers, bonding… what do I need??? Let’s go over a very common choice, dental bridges.

Dental bridges are used to fill gaps in the mouth when teeth have fallen out or have been removed due to periodontal disease, injury or decay. When a person is missing a tooth, it can really have an effect on self-confidence. Missing teeth create an unbalance in existing mouth structures leading to additional bone loss, jaw stress, TMJ problems and headaches. Speech can also be affected when a person has a missing tooth.

Our Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, one of Los Angeles’ premier cosmetic dentists, operates from our state-of-the-art Beverly Hills office, and he’s taken dental bridgework to a new utmost standard. He utilizes effective technology such as Shade vision, computerized tone and color matching of existing teeth, and The Wand – a slow-feeding anesthetic delivery system for virtually painless procedure. As an acknowledged expert, his results are nothing less that outstanding.

Typically, fixed bridges or partial bridges are used to replace missing teeth. A fixed bridge is a replacement tooth that is attached to the surrounding teeth by placing porcelain crowns on those teeth and fastening the artificial tooth to those crowns. This is the favored solution and the porcelain work done by Dr. Maddahi is natural looking and results in a beautiful new smile!

A partial bridge is a denture-like plastic or metal structure that has the missing tooth or teeth attached which slides into the mouth and is removable for cleaning. Partials may not look as natural and do need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned every day.

Our Los Angeles Area Cosmetic Dentist is Creating Beautiful, Natural Smiles

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Your teeth can be misshapen, discolored or misaligned. They can be stained from foods, wine, coffee, cigarettes or medicines. Afraid to smile? Embarrassed to be caught laughing in front of a group of people? Wishing you could fix your teeth, but just not sure how to really get what you want?

Previously dentistry let some people down – poorly replaced teeth, mercury fillings or low quality (fake-looking) porcelain veneers – could serve to a person’s detriment. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, one of the Los Angeles area premier cosmetic dentists, is located in Beverly Hills.

How does a “new smile” begin? Through extensive and personal consultation, Dr. Maddahi answers a patient’s questions and then partners with them to craft the new look that the patient can see and agree with. This is achieved through state-of-the-art computer imaging and skilled modeling so there is no mystery as to what results will be obtained.

Once the decision is made existing teeth can be resurfaced and reshaped using porcelain veneers. Veneers are durable and are fused to the teeth. Dentists such as Dr. Maddahi can easily and skillfully transform the shape of teeth in this manner, filling gaps, eliminating imperfections and creating color that could not otherwise be obtained.

As needed, teeth will be removed, relocated or replaced, at times using dental implants which are artificial roots that create a stable, durable and permanent base for new, custom created, teeth. These teeth are color matched to existing teeth and are made of advanced dental porcelains, virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Overall, teeth can be dramatically enhanced by tooth whitening techniques. Dr. Maddahi recommends the use of Zoom! Whitening System for a state-of-the-art whitening process, to make teeth that are many shades brighter which can be achieved quickly – commonly up to 8 shades whiter, in one treatment. Alternately, laser tooth whitening is a non-invasive chemically free treatment that produces near-instant results.

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. With these and other state-of-the-art technology coupled with the skilled, artistic eye of Los Angeles area cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a new look is now rapidly obtainable.

Pain at the Dentist is “Old School” For this New Brand of Dentistry

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Ouch. I used to think that going to the dentist meant a day of stress, fear, emotional strife and pain. But not anymore! I have been treated by gentle dentist Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, and I vote him to be the most caring dentist in Los Angeles!

The reasons most people tend to avoid the dentist are remedied in a new approach of dentistry.  Dr. Maddahi is a pain-free dentist using gentle dentistry know-how to take the stress and pain out of dental visits.

People are living day to day with worries about deteriorating teeth with painful, bleeding gums, perhaps embarrassed to smile and simply afraid of going to the dentist.  There’s a new manner of dentistry that is actually changing the whole feel and sentiment of going to the dentist.

Kourosh Maddahi, DDS, strives to provide gentle, pain-free dental care.  First, making sure that each of his patients is comfortable and not stressed. Then their needs are addressed and they understand that they will receive the best treatment possible, using his state-of-the-art tools.  The x-ray procedure is simplified and tempered with the use of digital x-ray equipment, so there’s no long wait, it takes only a few seconds for the image to appear on the computer screen.  Mini-cameras that go into the mouth show dental problems and progress are used, as well.

“I have found every new tool that is available to me and implemented them into my practice.”, said Dr. Maddahi, “I want my patients to have a completely trauma-free visit when they are here. This new approach to dentistry is completely changing this field.”

IntraOral Cameras are quite tiny cameras that are pen-shaped. Dr. Maddahi uses them so that he and the patient can see on a computer screen with crystal clarity every tooth and gum surface in his or her mouth as the camera is moved from structure to structure.  This is an important diagnostic tool for the doctor and gives the patient the same view of what the cosmetic dentist is viewing.  Digital Cosmetic Imaging shows each patient a computerized split image photograph of his or her smile.  On the top half of the screen is their current smile and on the bottom is a digital simulation of their smile after the cosmetic dentistry has been performed, allowing an immediate decision on work to be done.

High-Tech Tools Considered Essential by Our Beverly Hills Dentist

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Not all dentists offer digital x-rays.  But our Beverly Hills dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has found that this high-tech device is just one of several fundamental tools now available for cosmetic dentistry. Without digital x-rays he would miss out on the details of your case that he obtains from this essential device.

“In only three seconds the x-ray image will transfer to the computer. Using digital X-rays one has the ability to magnify, colorize, and alter the density of the image.”, explains Dr. Maddahi.  “With digital x-rays not only does the patient receive 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays but this computerized system allows me to e-mail x-rays instead of having to hand carry them to another specialist.  No old-school bio-hazardous x-ray solution is required; therefore there is no negative impact on the environment. This also is important to me.”

IntraOral Cameras are little pen-shaped cameras that Dr. Maddahi uses to show you each tooth and gum surface in the mouth with clarity.  He has found the high-tech microscope also to be a vital tool also.  This Trinocular Compound Microscope is a high-resolution state-of-the-art 40x by 1600x that allows the hygienist, the doctor and the patient, to digitally view moving bacteria from the mouth on a computerized video screen.  This takes the guesswork out of killing germs.  Bacteria are the cause of gum disease. Undetected and unhandled bacteria can cause the patient to lose their teeth.  Once the specific bacteria in the mouth are identified using this special microscope he can specifically diagnose the proper hygiene needed.

Have you ever wished you could see what you would look like if you had cosmetic dental work done? Dr. Maddahi also employs the use of Digital Cosmetic Imaging, which shows you a computerized split image photograph of your smile.  On the top half of the screen is your current smile and on the bottom is a digital simulation of your smile after the cosmetic dentistry has been performed!

Without the use of these high-tech tools, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, our Beverly Hills dentist would find himself with much longer appointments, would not be as informed about his patients’ cases, resulting in more stress for his patients.

In Search of That Perfect Smile: Advances in Cosmetic Dentistry Create Outstanding Results

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Who doesn’t long for a perfect smile? Looking in the mirror or catching our smile in a photo can cause a moment of depression. And when everyone on television, in movies and shown in the magazines have GREAT TEETH it’s very hard to ignore. A few short visits to Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, can change all that around!

While many of us don’t have a perfect smile naturally, these days ANYONE can get one, with the help of a cosmetic dentist.  If you have been considering ways to brighten your smile or improve some imperfections, there couldn’t be a better time. The advances in dental materials and cosmetic dental procedures in recent years offer results of near-perfect teeth that are close to being as strong as the originals.

“I have been performing cosmetic dentistry procedures on clients for many years,” details Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi. “But we’ve seen such advancement in materials and techniques in the last decade, that we are able to create more lasting, and less costly, enhancements to peoples’ smiles. The breakthroughs have been remarkable.”

Even if you are one of the lucky ones who have never needed braces, the everyday effects of aging and habits such as drinking coffee or red wine can create staining, discoloration or just an overall dull look to the teeth. Some get tired of looking at their dental flaws, large or small, such as small chips or rough spots, unmatching tooth shape, teeth that are wide apart or gapped, or even cavities that are filled with silver or gold fillings. Many procedures are available ranging from simple teeth whitening to full or partial mouth reconstructions with porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns.

One patient describes her experience.  “My entire adult life I have hated my teeth. I waited all these years, just not trusting the cosmetic dental developments and now I know that it was the right time.  It took only a few hours and three visits to have the smile I have always wanted with porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns.  Actually, to a have a smile better than I ever dreamed of. Every day I look in the mirror and am overjoyed with the look that I now have.  And the people I run into are amazed at how I look.  They don’t always notice what is different but tell me I look younger or thinner. I can’t thank Dr. Maddahi enough.”

Missing and Broken Teeth are Handled with Solutions from our Beverly Hills Implant Dentist

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

For patients who have difficulty due to missing and broken teeth, our Beverly Hills implant dentist procedures offer freedom in smiling, talking and eating.

I remember my grandfather who had to take out his dentures each night and put them next to the bed. I once was at a rehearsal for a play and this poor man got so into his lines that his teeth literally flew out of his mouth! (He was playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol. I can’t imagine how careful he was from then on – he did a hundred shows that season!)

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, who is a leading implant dentist in the Beverly Hills area, has worked tirelessly for twenty-one years to bring his patients new, beautiful smiles. He insists upon using state-of-the-art cosmetic dentistry when delivering dental implants, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening, offering the ultimate in top-quality dentistry.

Many people have newfound freedom with the permanence and stability afforded by dental implants. Yes, dentures and bridges are reliable and proven devices, but life is found to be much easier with implants. In this procedure small posts or artificial ‘roots’ are surgically fixed into the gum. On these posts, a new artificial crown or tooth is placed, instantly creating a freedom with eating, talking and smiling that makes them a very attractive option.

Where teeth are extremely discolored, misshaped or damaged, Dr. Maddahi uses porcelain veneers to craft a new tooth surface. This then enhances tooth form as well as sculpting a more pleasing or functional position. He also uses veneers to restore teeth with scratches, pits and chips, leaving the teeth looking more beautiful than ever but very natural. This veneer material is very durable and lasting.

To ensure that the new teeth match perfectly, Dr. Maddahi uses Shade Vision technology which will precisely analyze tooth color and shade. Ideally the existing teeth are whitened with the new Zoom! Teeth Whitening System, since teeth do discolor and stain over time. Wine, tea, coffee, cigarettes and certain foods can discolor the teeth, leaving them dull and appearing unhealthy or old.

Dr. Maddahi operates with this technology as a master technician and artist. He is acknowledged as possessing a rare artistic talent for dental makeovers.
